Last Week Here

Well after I talked with you on the phone, we had three Devotionals right in a row! Followed by Meet The Mormons! It was probably my favorite day so far! Christmas was great! Our teacher wanted to do something for us before he left for the States.  Everyone was saying churros. He brought Gringas, which Clay might be able to tell you about... not sure.  They were the tastiest things I have had in a month and a half haha! This last sunday I gave a talk on repentance and it went really well! I did not have to read anything I wrote down! That was the miracle of the week haha!  After that we watched the Mountain of the Lord. A fantastic movie on the Salt Lake Temple! I have absolutely been loving the time here!  One week left though, kind of sad about that.
So story time. Yesterday, monday, we decided to play some futsol. (cage soccer) I knew it was pretty intense. They picked me to be the first goalie (I laughed too.) So I am standing in the goal and one of the natives has the ball coming at me. He kicks it up to his chest and before it hits the ground boots it into the goal. What he did not see was me coming towards him quite quickly. Well he trips over me and twists his ankle and gets put into a wheelchair.  What I then found out was that it was his second to last day here. So he is now out in the field with a bad ankle. I felt pretty terrible!
That same day, our teacher left and we gave him a tie with our signatures on it before he left.  He was for sure the coolest guy in Mexico.
Today we had a huge game of capture the flag for our p-day event.  We probably had forty or fifty people! It got pretty intense. Anyway we have choir practice now, so.. see ya!

Elder Oxborrow

Feliz Navidad

Well, Christmas is upon us! We have had some spectacular talks this past week, but I am still super excited for the MTC devo from Provo! I always love it whenever any we get to see any videos of General authorities! We have an CCM choir that my comp dragged me into haha.  He is a tenor and since I can not sing tenor, I am in the bass section haha!  We are going to sing O Come All Ye Faithful.  We sounded pretty good in our last practice, hopefully that keeps going till Thursday!
Our teacher says he is going to bring us all something from the city.  I voted it should be horchata, but all the other Elder's think churros would be better.  Oh well, both good.
This week was pretty slow, we welcomed all the new missionaries and took them to their casas, and Elder Gevas was one of them so that was pretty cool. Oh if you haven't seen it yet, you need to see the video "He Is The Gift"! We've seen it a bunch and I don't get tired of it! Also there's a sweet video with David Achuletta (for Kaitlin) in it on the nativity! Can't remember what that one is called and also one called "The Reason Behind Christmas" All of them are great!
I don't have any pictures this week, sorry... but I will try to get some for next week. Sorry for the bad news, but the visa has not shown up. I'm sure it will show here in the next couple days.
Some good news, they told us that we could watch and listen to MoTab choir and mormon messages while in the computer labs. I have definitely taken advantage of that! haha!
So good to hear from everyone and I am hoping your CHRISTmas is as good as they are making ours here! The church is true! I love you all!
Con amor,
Elder Oxborrow

p.s. if you have time, watch "The Refiner's Fire" too!

Mexico City!

It has been quite a week here in the Mexico CCM! I taught the district how to play poison in basketball because we can't really play basketball with the hermanas... Anyway it is pretty much all we play now as a district. We fasted Thursday for someone who was thinking a lot about going home and such, and luckily they have gotten better since then.  We had a super awesome event on Friday that was a Christmas production about Christmas in Mexico!  It was a play type thing that showed how the natives saw that night, there was a bunch of dancing and singing! They had some pretty sweet costumes including the three amigos type costumes haha!  They also danced while doing a bunch of crazy moves with espadas and stuff!  It was cool.  Today we got to go to the temple! Even though it was under construction and we didn't actually go inside, it was awesome! Very beautiful!  The ride through Mexico City is crazy!  You are almost always three inches from another car here and people just j walk making it so much more difficult! haha That pretty much wraps up things here!  Glad to see I graduated! haha So clay wasn't as awkward as Brenden was?  too bad...  got a couple pictures this week... hope they actually send haha

This is how Mexico City is all over.

Warm Weather

Last week I wasn't even able to tell you guys everything that happened because of my short time and it felt like so much was going on, but this week did pick back up! We taught our first "investigator" and that ended with a "baptism" haha.
Oh I have a couple pics of life in the CCM. Hopefully it does justice to the beauty of this place haha. The food here is still pretty good with exception of like one meal every day they try to make American food, but something goes wrong. Like the mashed potatoes here should be called pureed potatoes. Anyway, moving on. Oh for the celebration of Guadalupe they lit the mountain on fire haha! I will see if I can get Elder Murphy to give me that pic. We got to watch the Christmas Devo from Salt Lake! It was really good! So much to learn from Eyring!  We also watched another Elder Holland video that, as usual, ran me right over with the gospel!  He talked about How much he loved his mission and how much we should too. If I could watch one talk from Elder Holland every day, I would still want more haha! Spanish is going well, I am starting to have conversations with people here that I can understand and take part in, but it is still mostly foreign haha! One Elder was really struggling with the language one day and Elder Murphy shared a scripture with him that put tears in my eyes by the end of the first sentence! Romans 8:35- 39. What a powerful missionary he is! For sure my favorite in the district! My teacher, Hermano Trejo will be going to Utah in January and might be able to stop by in Lehi so that's pretty cool! He's a little 5'4" guy that barely speaks English. This whole week has been filled with really loud bangs that kinda got people worrying, but that's just the natives celebrating with some sort of fireworks I guess. Oh, Dad you need to sing on sunday... so yeah...  Also I'll have to take you up on that taco offer haha. Congrats to Jenna, this time let's keep that cast off! Well most my time was wasted trying to get pics on here... sorry...
Con amoroso pensimiento,
Elder Oxborrow

Week 1!!

Hola mi familia!
Mexico is fantastic! I don`t know where to start! So the plane ride was long, but when I got off in Atlanta, it was so flat! It was scary how flat it was! haha anyway, when we got off in Mexico, We had a long bus ride ahead to the CCM. It is surprising how big Mexico city is! It was a pretty dirty city, but somehow it was also really green. There were trees everywhere! We pulled in and went straight to dinner.  Yo creo it was a chicken Parmesan.  Anyway, we spent the rest of the day getting situated. I actually had no problem at all getting situated with the schedule, pero the language is pretty tough. Which is why some of these palabras will be in español. I`m trying all I can to use it todos de los dias even on p-day. Anyway,  we have great food here and the weather is actually quite fantastic! It is cool in the morning and around tres de la tarde, it starts getting hot.  It is way beautiful here! WOW! Las montañas es muy bella! I`ll get pictures next week, but for now you will have to trust me.  I never thought I would be so agradecido for any second of study time I could get!  I am learning so much more from El Libro de Mormón than I ever have!  Thank you guys for supporting me while I am out here! It is such a great experience and it has only been five days! (feels like two months)

I have such a great District! We have got the District Leader Elder Allen, y Elder Murphy the one who can literally memorize anything. He already memorized the first vision en español! Elder Stromness who (pretends like he) knows all haha with Elder Mccarney, a football guy. There is Elder Skoubye who is a pretty legit guy, reminds me of Brenden with Elder Burke, a more introverted kinda guy, but once you get to know him, he really is pretty cool. Hermana Pace, who, ironically, reminds me of Mariah Pace, with Hermana Hansen yes mom the Hansen girl you know. Then there is Hermana Failner who we call Hermana Fresa porque her hair with Hermana Hansen, the other hermanas sister. Finally there is Elder Higginson a soccer lover who hates running so he won`t run in the mornings. He is companions with this really weird kid who usually just sits in the corner and cries the whole time, I think it was Elder... Oxborrow. haha most the natives call me Eldere Owburow or even "Eldere.... whatever" haha.  Speaking of the natives, what they lack in height, they make up for in speed! Learned that one in basquetbol! Anyway, It is now time for some volley ball championship so I guess I will talk to you guys next week! Con picturas! Me amo mi familia!
Con Amor,

Elder Oxborrow

Mission Farewell

So many people came to support Wade at his talk in Garland.  He was only left with 5 minutes to speak, but I'm sure he'll make up for it once he gets out in the field.
